Zakiyya graduated with a First Class in Civil Engineering MEng from the University of Warwick in 2012. She has since worked in civil engineering consultancy, spending two years as a hydraulic modeller on the Severn Trent Water framework and one year as a highways engineer on various development schemes.
Zakiyya joined the Warwick Institute for the Science of Cities (WISC) in 2015. She completed the MSc in Urban Informatics and Analytics, with Distinction, during the first year of the doctoral training programme. She also spent time at the Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) in New York and participated in the GLA-supported London Data Dive. Zakiyya is now beginning work on her PhD. She is interested in how people use transport systems and what factors may influence their choice of mode of transport
